The new Boating Safely Course (BSC) is available! This is a four-lesson, eight-chapter, eight-hour course designed to appeal to youth, hunters, fishermen, Personal Watercraft (PWC) operators, and other non-traditional boaters. It is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). The BSC is a complete rewrite of the original, physically attractive (in color), and produced in cooperation with the United States Power Squadrons (USPS) and Mosby Lifeline. The BSC is described more fully in the 1997 Public Education Workshop. This Speed-gram provides ordering information for the new BSC and formally withdraws the old BSC from circulation. Flotillas may order the Boating Safely product line by calling Mosby Lifeline Order Service at (800) 633-6699. Product book codes, titles, and prices are shown below:
| Title | Book Code | Retail Price | Flotilla Price |
| Boating Safely Text | 30069 | $5.00 | $2.25 |
| Instructor's Manual | 30212 | $2.50 | $1.00 |
| Final Examinations (pkg. of 25) | 31781 | Restricted | $3.00 |
| Certificates (pkg. of 25) | 31709 | Restricted | $3.75 |
Flotillas should order Boating Safely Texts in increments of 25. Instructor Manuals can be ordered singly. It is important that Auxiliary units provide Mosby with an accurate district, division, and flotilla number to process orders correctly and to ensure that they receive the proper discount. Auxiliary units will be charged for shipping and postage charges. Applicable state sales tax will be charged to all units that do not provide Mosby with a tax-exemption certificate.
As noted above, the BSC text (not necessarily the course) will have a retail sales price of $5.00 per copy. In pricing the BSC course, flotillas may include charges for classroom space, visual aids, and other education related expenses. There is no $5.00 ceiling for the course per se, but course prices should be reasonable and not excessive, considering flotilla costs and course value to the students.
As noted above, the new BSC replaces the old BSC and contains all the material necessary for presentation of an 8-hour NASBLA-approved PWC course. At present, all stocks of the old BSC and the PWC course based on this course are exhausted. Therefore, Auxiliary National Materials Center (ANMC) stock numbers 10015, 10016, 10017, 10018 (pertaining to the old BSC) and stock numbers 10100, 1801, 1802, and 1803 (pertaining to the PWC course based on the BSC) described in Speed-grams (1-96) and (1-97), are withdrawn. You must order the BSC from Mosby Lifeline as noted above. Auxiliary units are free to use the old BSC and/or the PWC course based on the old BSC until present unit copies are exhausted.
The one-hour PWC course (not NASBLA approved because of its length), introduced in 1996, provides another product for PWC short courses. This product remains available from ANMC.
